A photographic diary of our volunteering activities
Our annual painting of the Centre, during which Alison B. got her 25-year award from the National Trust. The pictures below are from Lop, Tom H., and Andy T. (Click on each for an enlargement.)

Some photos from Paul H. showing us cutting back a hedge and digging.
Simon Damant asked us to fill up two trailers with old fence posts that had been dumped in the farm away from the house and grounds. He was taking to wood to an incinerator to start clearing the large pile of old fence posts that exists.

Once the trailers were full, we started to lay the wood in an orderly pile on the ground, ready to fill another trailer. Although the weather forecast was heavy rain, we started work after the showers had passed and the afternoon turned into a lovely day.
Andy T. has more photos.
We erected tree guards (photos: Peter).

Andy T. has kindly provided more weekend photos.
The tramways themselves date back to the late 1700s, before the era of steam when lime trucks would be pulled by ponies or man-power. Further information about the quarry history and some history of the tramway are available. The site known as Ticknell’s Yard is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
